Artist Showcase: Painter Trent Call

Trent Call - Frontroom
Frontroom. 2013. Oil on Panel. 24” x 24”. “I feel this painting was a breakthrough for me in capturing an accidental photo, one of the last from the session. During the painting process, using the line textures and scraping really felt like I was moving in a new direction.” –Trent
Trent Call - Teal Wall
Teal Wall. Oil on panel. 24” x 24”. “For this series of painting, I was trying to be very accurate with color, but minimal in application.” –Trent. 2016.
Trent Call - Party Party. “This is an example of freestyling with a brush and ink. Embracing the accidents and making them work, then later creating depth with the airbrush. I see this approach similar to drawing in the style of blind contour, but with cartoons out of the head instead of drawing from life.” -Trent

Trent Call - Box Cloud
Box Cloud. 4’ x 5’ on panel. “This is one my many larger ‘cartoony’ paintings that I just love making, but cannot seem to sell. If I had a larger place to store these finished paintings, I would keep making them. There is so much subtle color and texture in the acrylic background. 1-shot black paint with airbrush shadows.” -Trent
Trent Call - Metro Bar Mural
Metro Bar, SLC, Utah. Maybe 20’ tall. “This skull is painted on the side of a bar. I am friends with the owners. We worked out that I could paint whatever I wanted in exchange for a small chunk of money and some trade to one of their restaurants. With this I wanted to create value and depth with solid colors using secondary values. I ended up not liking the grey 3D, so I ended up shading it a bit more.” -Trent
