Artist Showcase: Painter Alexandrea Pangburn

Bird Mural in Denver, CO, by Alexandrea Pangburn. Photo: RiNo Art District
This was my very first spray paint mural and was done during CRUSH 2018. I was so nervous to use a new medium at such a large scale, but it turned out great! When I applied, I wanted to do something that the community could connect with. I chose a Western Tanager bird because literally a few weeks prior to my submission, I saw one in my backyard in Golden, and was amazed at their markings and how vibrant they were. It was almost immediate that I knew that’s what I wanted to do for CRUSH. I wanted to make sure that my mural was interactive and people felt like they could connect with the piece. I loved how the bird looks like he’s scoping out everyone who walks past him. Done with 100% spray paint. –Alexandrea Pangburn
The Fight. –Alexandrea Pangburn
The Fight (Acrylic paint on 1/2’’ birch cut-out) – My very first cut-out and definitely my favorite piece I’ve done. I wanted to show emotion between animals and what better than my first love: horses. Since moving out to Colorado, the way of the west and the animals out here have really captured my interest and I really wanted to show a part of the “Wild West” through a couple of wild mustangs. These beautiful creatures are a monument of this country and I appreciate and respect their presence in the wild. This piece was bought by a friend and is currently hanging up in Til Death Denver Tattoo shop in the RiNo Art District (Denver, CO). –Alexandrea Pangburn
S*Park Community Mural in Denver, Colorado.. –Alexandrea Pangburn
S*Park Community in Denver, Colorado, commissioned this through CRUSH and this was a piece that I did after the 2018 CRUSH festival. This was my second mural and definitely had its challenges because this parking garage doors were active. Super challenging to work on a moving canvas, but my favorite part was creating the honey. If I’m doing a piece for someone or a business, I always try and make sure that whatever I do has a tie in with the branding. S*Park uses a lot of repetitive pattern in their branding and above the parking garage is Altius Farms, which is a greenhouse that grows plants for local restaurants like Uchi. Putting those two together, I thought of doing this beehive which would also represent the parking garage as “the hive” for S*Park. Done with 100% spray paint. –Alexandrea Pangburn
Twisted. –Alexandrea Pangburn
Twisted (Acrylic paint on handmade birch panel) – This was a private commission by some friends in Ohio and probably one of my favorite pieces I’ve done to date. My goal is to always create something that shows emotion. Animals show emotion through body language instead of words. So in my art, I love capturing animals in emotion. This piece makes me feel a sense of struggle as well as romance. –Alexandrea Pangburn
Krameria + Pronghorn Mural. –Alexandrea Pangburn
Krameria + Pronghorn Mural. [The client] wanted the krameria flower tied in and then something Colorado. He had no other requirements besides that, so I actually had a really hard time trying to figure out what I wanted to do on that wall because it’s so long. But I really enjoy the whole flora and fauna thing, so I think I was just going through Google images and looking up different animals, seeing their poses. The pronghorn was something that really stood out to me. I haven’t seen them in any murals out here and I feel they’re such a fun little gem of Colorado to find out in nature.

So I just started like that — I put a pronghorn on there, then I put another one and then it turned into this herd of pronghorn that are kind of running in the foreground of krameria flowers. –Alexandrea Pangburn
