Artist Showcase: Director + Filmmaker Josh Berman of Level 1 Productions

At this point I haven’t had time to put together a new demo reel since the Fall of 2014, and it’s borderline painful to watch this reel knowing that it’s far from an accurate representation of our best work. We’ve shot so many amazing people, places and things in recent years and our filmmaking has progressed in so many ways! As we shift gears from ski features to commercial and brand content this coming year, putting together a new reel is the FIRST thing on my to-do list and it’s something that I’m very excited to do! —Josh Berman
Zig Zag is the 19th feature film in the series of our 20 annual films and continues what we’ve established as a tradition of ski filmmaking with the most well-rounded and progressive action content in the business. —Josh Berman
The SuperUnknown video talent search contest that I started back in 2003 has jumpstarted the careers of some of the biggest names in the sport of freeskiing, and continues to this day to be one of the most fun shoots of my year, gathering 10 aspiring pros from around the world in what is the perfect combination of ski film shoot and summer camp vibes. Every year a few Finalists tell me that it was the best week of their lives, and it’s hearing things like that that inspire me to keep the ball rolling! —Josh Berman

Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, May 2015 – Photographer Erik Seo and I shot out of a heli, arguably the best way to cover the very large step-over to step-down jump that had been built for our crew high in the Whistler alpine. At this point drone technology was improving at an exponential rate, and this, sadly, would likely be the last time we would ever be shooting a park jump handheld out of a full-scale helicopter. —Josh Berman. Sapporo, Japan. Josh Berman
Sapporo, Japan, January 2015 – At this point I was traveling around Hokkaido with an exceptionally well-rounded crew of skiers. We were able to shoot in the streets when conditions weren’t the best, and then able to shift gears and log shots in Japan’s famed bottomless pow when the weather was cooperating. In this photo I had climbed onto a rainbow-colored slide and shot a handheld wide angle of Will Wesson who gapped onto the top of the slide’s cage and slid 60’+ of kinked metal for one the movie’s more memorable jib shots. —Josh Berman
